Can not read white text on a black background I end up seeing lines everywhere.

LOL, thanks for the reply. I figured it out. I added the "high contrast" extension to Chrome so I can invert colors. I really wanted to read this article so I did some searches and discovered the work around.

The first (Bell Labs) transistors were not planar. They were point contact. Planar transistors had actually been proposed earlier in the 1920s but nobody worked out how to build one. The big breakthrough in transistors was when Shockley came up with the junction transistor that was actually manufactureable at scale (because he was bored in a seminar). That transistor put the silicon in silicon valley because his mother was sick so he moved from New Jersey to Silicon Valley.
